John Woo is an American musician who met the band while studying in Boston. Originally a friend of Sam Davol's, Woo stated in the 2010 Magnetic Fields documentary Strange Powers that the audition process with Stephin Merritt was a quick one, with Woo and Davol essentially being told they were in the band rather than asked if they would be. Woo doesn't appear on a Magnetic Fields album until 1995's Get Lost ​but has been the lead guitarist ever since. He also works as a photographer and graphic designer.
